The House Passes Health Care Reform Legislation! Key Ammendment Provides Affordable Clothes Hangers for Women!

According to the Huffington Post,

"A triumphant Speaker Nancy Pelosi likened the legislation to the passage of Social Security in 1935 and Medicare 30 years later. 'Oh, what a night!" she proclaimed at the beginning of a press conference held after the vote. Obama issued a statement saying, 'I look forward to signing it into law by the end of the year.'"

"'It provides coverage for 96 percent of Americans. It offers everyone, regardless of health or income, the peace of mind that comes from knowing they will have access to affordable health care when they need it,' said Rep. John Dingell."

Dingell is right, assuming that by "everyone" he means "a very small group of men".

Oh what a night,
Hypnotizing, mesmerizing me
She was everything I dreamed she'd be
Sweet surrender, what a night!

Oh what a night,
Why'd it take so long to see the light?
If you want to learn the truth about the health care reform bill, I urge you to read Normon Solomon's article at ZNet entitled, "Health Care Apartheid".

One of the Democrats' talking points being regurgitated by so-called "left" media outlets (e.g., the Huffington Post) is that the Affordable Clothes Hangers for Women Act "generously" expands Medicaid.  The House Democrats have compassionately decided  to raise the income limit for  Medicaid eligibility to include people who earn up to 150% of the federal poverty line.

As cited in the previous post, the federal poverty line has remained at the same absolute value since 1963. Below is a list that provides the current federal poverty line by household size and 150% of the federal poverty line for each household. If you earn more than that amount, you are shit out of luck. You will be required by law to purchase private insurance--or perhaps some silly "public option" that, if it survives the Senate, is expected to cost more and cover less than private insurance.

Household                 Poverty Line (150% Poverty Line)
1                                $10,830 ($16,245)
2                                14,570 (21,855)
3                                18,310 (27,465)
4                                22,050 (33,375)
5                                25,790 (38,865)

Now, consider how much it costs each year to pay premiums, co-pays and deductibles if you are single, earn $25,000/yr, and are fortunate enough to have a job that provides health insurance. Now, imagine that you earn the same amount and your employer does not provide health insurance. How much are you going to have left each year after purchasing your mandated health insurance plan?

If you haven't thought about it, you better start thinking about it--and now. Especially those of you who have children. Presently, it appears that there is going to be a fine of some sort if you don't purchase health insurance--the amount is uncertain at this point, but it is likely to be substantial.  The government already garnishes people's wages for failing to pay taxes, child support, etc.  It doesn't take a huge leap to envision a scenario where wages will be garnished to collect fines from those who don't purchase health insurance as required by law. But it gets worse...

Suppose you are a single mother with two children who makes $28,000/yr at a job with no benefits, and you decide it is more important to eat and not be homeless than to buy health insurance. State child "protection" agencies remove children from parents who do not send their kids to school and charge them with neglect.

If not sending your child to school enough is considered "neglect", imagine what would happen if little Johnny got hit  by a Prius (created by American workers thanks to those millions of "green" jobs Obama promised) while crossing the street and had to be taken to the ER by ambulance.

You rush to the hospital to discover that Johnny will be fine. She just has a few broken bones, but' she'll live.  After the doctor gives you the good news, a social worker shows up asking questions about why you are breaking the law and medically neglecting your child. You leave the hospital without Johnny and with a court date where you will likely lose custody of Johnny temporarily, and perhaps even permanently.

Prepare yourselves.  A time of darkness is coming. Can you feel it? I fear that BushCo's 8 years of fascist warmongering are going to seem like a New Age crystal healing retreat compared to the darkness that looms ahead of us.

Obama was not appointed to bring about change. No, the ruling class chose him as their puppet because they knew he could convince people to abandon thoughts of a popular rebellion after the Bush years. Obama quelled populist rage and channeled it into the ballot box instead. After the Bush years, our corporate dictators knew they needed a figurehead who was capable of at least the pretense of change, thereby "making the burdens yet to come more bearable."

Wow, perfectly dissected Obama's sham! The current "Bush-era" systems are a mess and all the "change" he has brought are cosmetic. And I voted for him! - Sorry guys :(

You're right on the mark, acuvue oasys. I refused to vote the Obama/Biden ticket precisely because I saw all this stuff coming from the get-go.
